Rogers Walker, Jr. is a photographic artist and educator currently based out of Monterey, CA , but is a native of South Carolina. His work is deeply rooted in the experience of place and explorations of time. Most of his work involves performance/installation-based interactions with nature. Current influences include the earth art of Ana Mendieta, Robert Smithson, and Andy Goldsworthy in addition to the work of Native American artists. Longstanding influences are painters, including Mark Rothko, Van Gogh, Vermeer, and other 17th Century Dutch master painters.
He has lived and worked all over the world, including Canada, the Netherlands, France, Philadelphia, D.C., and New York City. He holds a BA in English from George Washington University and an MA in Applied Linguistics from Columbia University. His artistic training includes the following: courses in photographic fundamentals at GWU, Art history at University of the Netherlands, MFA in Photography/Film coursework at Virginia Commonwealth University, and obsessive meanderings in museums and galleries worldwide.
He has shown work at the Photogram Gallery in Amsterdam, NL.
